Youth Team Face Oldham

10 March 2015

Kyle Previews Fixture

Richie Kyle is hoping his Blackpool Youth side can continue their rich vein of form when they face Oldham on Wednesday.

The young Seasiders have won their last two games, but Kyle admitted it will be tough to carry on that run with a stretched squad against a powerful Oldham side.

“We’re expecting another tough game this week,” he said. “Unfortunately with youth football we sometimes have a problem getting them out for midweek games so we’ll have to see what team we’ll have available. We also have a few missing for different reasons so it won’t be the same team as the one that played on Saturday.

“Saturday’s win at Tranmere showed where hard work could take us, we were first to everything against a very good side and were good value for our win, so the players have to take confidence from our latest performances and carry it into this next game.

“Oldham are a good side who got a great win at the weekend. They’re very physical and very quick so we’ll have a game plan to combat that. I know we’ll be stretched but we’ll pick a team more than capable of going out there and getting a result.”

Captain Joe Moulden is amongst those unavailable for the match, but Kyle said his young players must make the most of their opportunity if it’s handed to them.

“It’s shown here that players will get a chance at all levels, it’s a snowball effect,” said the Head of Coaching. “If you perform well in the youth team, you get a chance in the first-team, and once players make the step-up then there’s space for the young scholars to stake a claim. We’ve seen excellent development from the first years, they’ve played a bit more than maybe they would have elsewhere so that can only help them.

“It was never going to be easy to start with but they’ve adapted well and come through the other end, the recent performances have proven that and now we’re getting results to match, so long may that continue,” he added.
