Midfielder Taking Positives From Southend
Jim McAlister believes Blackpool must get back to the basics to ensure they return to form at Port Vale on Tuesday evening.
The Seasiders had looked solid for the majority of Saturday’s game at Southend United, but were condemned to another defeat late on.
Without a victory since the turn of the month, McAlister is looking to recapture the attributes which served Pool so well in October.
“We need to get back to clean sheets and the basics,” said McAlister. “That’s what we were doing when we were on the good run and we were getting joy from that.
“I felt we got back to defending the way we were defending at Southend, we weren’t pressing as individuals but in twos and threes.
“The conditions weren’t great and the manager wanted us to play in a certain way, and I think we did that, but we’re getting punished at the minute.”
Back in training on Sunday with all focus on Port Vale, McAlister says it’s essential Blackpool don’t get down hearted and keep belief high in the camp.
“This week’s training has been excellent and I think at times we took it into the game, but when you don’t score goals you don’t pick up points.
“We’ve got to take the positives and fortunately enough we’ve got a game on Tuesday so can hopefully put that right.
“On Sunday we’ll get the legs moving again and get our heads right for Tuesday, that’s the most important game for us now,” he added.
