McDonald: A Solid Performance

28 November 2015

Manager Pleased With Victory Over Fleetwood Town

Neil McDonald was pleased to see Blackpool get back to winning ways by grinding out a 1-0 victory over Fylde Coast neighbours Fleetwood Town.

The manager watched his side put in a resilient display to end a losing run in the league, with an own goal from Nathan Pond proving the difference between the two sides.

"I thought our first-half performance was a really good. Whether it be a spectacular goal or a deflection goal, we certainly needed it and got it," he said.

"Even though we didn't acquit ourselves really well in the second-half and felt a little bit nervous because of the run that we're on, we showed solidarity in everything we did and defensively we put our bodies on the line trying to stop crosses coming into the box.

"When we didn't our goalkeeper swept everything up, and I thought he had a magnificent game along with the rest of the team because we were under pressure after losing five games in the league and two cup games. We were up against our local rivals, who are on the up with a couple of good results and have been scoring lots of goals. We've managed to keep a clean sheet and won 1-0."

The Seasiders will now have to wait until 12 December to build on the result, however the break will be used wisely on the training ground to bring further improvement.

"We've taken away the losing streak, which is great, and we can start a winning streak now. We've got a couple of weeks until a game now and it gives us a chance again to work on the training field and make sure that we're ready for Wigan," he added.
