Midfielder's Relief After Win
Brad Potts says the relief in the home dressing room was tangible after Blackpool claimed three points over neighbours Fleetwood Town.
The midfielder set up Pool’s winner, which came courtesy of an own goal, to move Neil McDonald’s side to within a point of safety.
The victory ended a run of five league defeats on the spin and gave those with a Blackpool connection pure relief post-match.
“It’s been a while since we got our last three points and we put pressure on ourselves, so we needed that,” said Potts.
“We’ve been getting beaten when we didn’t deserve to, so the main thing was the win and we’ve done that.”
The Seasiders were forced to show their gritty side as Fleetwood piled on the pressure late on, but the importance of keeping a clean sheet had been drilled into the player, according to Potts.
“The gaffer has gone on about us keeping clean sheets. At half-time, when we were 1-0 up, all he was saying was about keeping a clean sheet.
“When you’re at the bottom it’s hard to play passing, free-flowing football. However, when we do go in front it gave us confidence and we defended well.
“To get the win will hopefully give us confidence and we can kick-on from here,” he added.
