The Opposition Guide: Port Vale

24 November 2015

A Look At Tonight's Opponents

Blackpool head to Port Vale for the second time this season tonight, this time for a Sky Bet League One fixture.

The Seasiders will be hoping for a similar result as last month, when goals from Jarret Rivers and Clark Robertson secured victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Here we take a look at the opposition:

Former Watford and Sheffield United defender Rob Page has been in charge of Port Vale for 14 months, having previously worked on the coaching staff at Vale Park.

The 41-year-old, who was capped on 41 occasions for Wales, replaced Micky Adams as manager of the club and has made steady progress in that time.

Port Vale are currently on a three-game winning running in the league following victories over Shrewsbury Town, Barnsley and Chesterfield.

Blackpool are one of two teams in all competitions to beat The Valiants on home soil this season, with Millwall the sole side to take three league points from Vale Park.

After 18 games the club sits 12th in League One on 26 points, four points off the play-off positions.

Once on loan at Blackpool, Carl Dickinson is now on the books of Port Vale and has quickly established himself as a fans' favourite with his committed and tenacious displays.

The 28-year-old has made more than 100 league appearances for the club since joining from Watford in 2013.

Dickinson, who initially made his name with Stoke City, featured seven times for Blackpool in 2006.

A constant in the Port Vale side since 2008, Louis Dodds continues to star for The Valiants and has scored four goals so far this season.

The attacker, who can also play in midfield, has made 304 appearances for the club since leaving Leicester City seven years ago.

Renowned for his technical ability and vision to create, Dodds is currently featuring alongside Ajay Leitch-Smith in the Port Vale line-up, with top scorer Uche Ikpeazu named on the bench in recent games.
