Youth Team Progress In Lancashire FA Cup

29 November 2015

Donnelly's Side Beat Bury 3-1

A Rowan Roache double and a wonder goal from James Doyle secured a 3-1 win and progression for Ciaran Donnelly’s side in the Lancashire FA Cup against Bury.

Roache opened the scoring in the first-half with a cool finish inside the box after collecting the ball from Kit Gregory.

He then doubled the lead for The Seasiders early in the second-half, when he fired past Papastylianou after he beautifully controlled a chipped through ball.

In the 73rd minute Bury won a penalty after a foul from a free-kick. Robert Bourne calmly stepped up and scored to set up a grandstand finish.

However, Doyle extended Blackpool’s lead in the 83rd minute when he found space to shoot from 25-yards-out.

Both sides went close to scoring on numerous occasions but were denied by some great goalkeeping.

Myles Boney was in great form and made a few good saves to ensure he did not concede from open play.

Doyle also went close a few times and saw a shot well saved and fired just wide from the edge on the box in the first-half.

Overall it was a well contested cup tie between two sides who have been doing very well in the North West Youth Alliance.

Ciaran Donnelly said: “It was a good game between two good teams playing good football. In the time since the last game against Bury (0-0) we’ve developed as a team and found our identity in the way we play, the way we press and the fast football with the energy we like to play with.

“We want to be fighting for the league title and getting to the final of this cup and hopefully winning it!”
