Defender Answers Our Questions

The experienced head in Blackpool’s young and vibrant squad, Emmerson Boyce has played every minute of League One action this season.

With an FA Cup winner’s medal and international caps to his name, the 36-year-old has seen plenty and is now adding to his story collection at Bloomfield Road.

And that's where Boyce sat down to answer our quick questions for the official website.

If you were the dressing room DJ, what three songs would be on your pre-match playlist?
Drake – Started From The Bottom, Biggie Smalls – Juicy and Rick Ross – 911.

What is your favourite piece of football memorabilia that you own?
My FA Cup winners’ medal. I’ve actually got it in a box, it’s on my ‘to do list’ to get it framed. 

What is your favourite away stadium to play at?
The Emirates. I supported Arsenal as a kid, and I played at Highbury which was decent, but The Emirates is on another level.

What is the biggest name in your phonebook?
Emile Heskey is up there. I’ve got a few from Wigan, like James McCarthy, Antonio Valencia and Roberto Martinez. 

What can you remember about your first job?
I worked on the market for a little bit. I used to get up at 4am to set up the market stalls and put all the stock out, before running to school. 

To date, what is your most embarrassing moment in football? 
Against Wolves a few years ago I had scored two goals and was on a hat-trick. I was put clean through and tried to square it for Hugo Rodallega to score, but under hit my pass.

What is the best sporting event that you’ve watched live?
Cricket back in the day with my dad, England against the West Indies. That was my first memory of sport. I was only about five and got picked up by the legend Joel Garner.

What were your first pair of football boots?
They were Patricks. Old school black and white. 

What TV series are you addicted to currently?
I watched the boxset of Game of Thrones and did it all in one big go.

Including yourself, what four players in world football would be in your 5-a-side team?
Peter Schmeichel, Cafu, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo.
