Defender Backs Pool To Turn Corner
Tom Aldred believes Blackpool’s performance at Gillingham reiterated the notion that a run of positive results is just around the corner for Neil McDonald’s side.
The Seasiders produced arguably their best display of the season against the league leaders, but conceded late and left with no reward for their efforts.
While frustrated to depart empty handed, Aldred says confidence is growing in the Blackpool camp and results will follow once some ‘finer details’ are altered.
“The performances and positive signs have been there, it’s just case of getting over the line,” said Aldred. “At Gillingham we were on top for large periods, but we need to be seeing games through.
“We’ve gone away to the side top of the league and left disappointed not to have taken any points with us. I’m not sure how we came away with nothing, we’re devastated.
“At the end of the day we’ve got to start picking up points because that’s what separates the league. The stats don’t lie, we’ve lost five from seven, but the signs are there for all to see.”
After biding his time to get into McDonald’s starting eleven, Aldred has now started the last four Blackpool matches and is enjoying a new lease of life at the club.
“I was here at the end of last season and it’s nothing like that, the atmosphere, coaching staff and performances. It is miles better now and it’s a set-up I’m proud to be a part of.
“When I first came to the club it was stop-start for me personally, with suspensions and injuries, but this is the best I’ve ever felt and I feel like I did in my Accrington days.
“This is the strongest I’ve felt after a good pre-season and from a personal point of view I want to kick on and put a good run together,” he added.
