Ex-Premier League Midfielder Joins Academy Setup

Gavin McCann has been appointed to the role of Head of Academy Coaching at Blackpool.

The former Everton, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers midfielder, 37, will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the Academy's coaching programme, with the overall aim of producing players technically able to progress to the first-team.

Capped once by England, McCann made 363 appearances at club level as a player and launched his own football academy alongside Jamie Milligan in 2008.

"He's got lots of playing experience in the Premier League and he's spent the last five or six years coaching in Bolton's academy," Academy Manager Ciaran Donnelly said.

"He has an affinity with the club because he's from the local area and he has some great ideas to move things forward. He'll oversee all the coaches we have in the academy and make sure that the right programmes are being delivered."
