Seasiders Progress In Lancashire Senior Cup

Blackpool cruised through to the second round of the Lancashire Senior Cup after a 4-2 victory over Morecambe.

The Seasiders came from behind at Bloomfield Road, with trialist Martin Paterson turning the tide with a fine individual effort.

After the break Charles Dunne, Kwame Thomas and Connor Oliver all found the back of the net to put Pool safely through.

It wasn’t all plain sailing however, two minutes is all it took for Morecambe to take the onus early on, as Paul Mullin’s fizzed effort squirmed through the hands of Myles Boney.

The stopper did make amends soon after however, denying Ben Hedley at the back post, before Pool levelled.

A floated ball from David Norris was picked out of the sky by Paterson, and the trialist was coolness personified when applying a simple rolled finish for 1-1.

The goal settled Blackpool down and Oliver forced Keiran O’Hara to parry a free-kick won by Thomas.

In the dying embers of the first-half Paterson turned down a golden chance to put Pool ahead, blazing over Thomas’ low cross when unmarked.

With Paterson only due to play 45 minutes, Kit Gregory replaced him for the second-half. After the interval The Seasiders started on the front foot and Norris exchanged passes with the youngster, before forcing O’Hara to save at full-stretch.

Their dominance continued and after Oliver was given a second bite at the cherry with his delivery, he made no mistake finding Dunne perfectly placed to direct a bullet header into the roof of the net.

And the result was rubber-stamped two minutes later when Thomas capitalised on a defensive effort and fired beyond O’Hara.

The striker was proving a handful for The Shrimps to deal with, and once he was chopped down by O’Hara inside the box, Oliver was able to bag the fourth from 12 yards.

Morecambe restored some pride late on with a second of their own however, when Ellison converted from an indirect free-kick, but it did little to impact the contest.
