Youth Team Beat Preston

10 September 2015

Donnelly's Side Record 3-1 Win

Two goals from James Doyle and another from Ralph Chea helped the youth team secure a 3-1 victory against Preston North End yesterday.

Doyle, featuring for the second time in two days after an appearance in the Lancashire Senior Cup, gave The Seasiders the lead from a free-kick inside the first seven minutes.

The midfielder scored again just after half-time, reacting quickest to a rebound to slot past the Preston goalkeeper and double Blackpool's advantage.

Ralph Chea added a third to put the team further ahead, though the hosts did pull a goal back from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining.

"It's always good to beat your local rivals at any level, and I was pleased with the performance from the players," Academy Manager Ciaran Donnelly said. "Some of them had only played against Morecambe the day before so it took real effort and determination to back it up. They out-worked and out-battled the opposition.

"That's our second victory of the season now so hopefully we'll continue to push on and improve. We previously had a disappointing result against Wrexham in the Youth Alliance Cup so this was a great response from the players."
