Defender On Massive Fleetwood Fixture
Tom Aldred insists Blackpool's players don’t need to be told about the importance of Saturday’s crucial fixture with Fylde Coast rivals Fleetwood Town.
The Seasiders sit two points behind their neighbours, knowing victory on their first League visit to Highbury would lift them out of the bottom four.
With three games remaining, the battle for survival is intensifying and Aldred says those in the Blackpool dressing room know what needs to be done.
“From a staff point of view there isn’t much to be said,” he explained. “We’re well aware of the situation the club’s in, we’re well aware of the team we’re playing and what results we need.
“They played Millwall on Tuesday night and got beat so they’ll be well aware that we’re coming for them. We’ve beaten them already this season, there’s nothing to fear there.
“We need to rally together now and dig in by getting a result on Saturday. We know a win’s a must. We’re looking forward to it, we’ll go there and get three points.”
The two clubs had never met in the Football League until November, when Pool came out on top, and Aldred points to the start of a run of form which lifted spirits that afternoon.
“We had a similar period earlier in the season, when we’d lost five games and beat Fleetwood, Wigan and Peterborough, and kept three clean sheets.
“We’ll definitely stay in the league if we win the next three games. At the minute we can only focus on Fleetwood and it’s a massive game
“With three remaining we need to finish on a high in terms of results and performances, starting at Fleetwood,” he added.
