Blackpool In Cup Action
Fixture | Blackpool vs Bolton Wanderers
Date | 9 August 2016
Venue | Bloomfield Road
Looking to build on their opening day victory over Exeter City, Blackpool will hope to spark a cup run as they welcome old foes Bolton Wanderers to Bloomfield Road.
The Seasiders are without an EFL Cup victory since 2009 but will look to continue their momentum against the League One side.
Kyle Vassell and an own goal helped see off Exeter City at the weekend and make clear that Gary Bowyer’s men mean business this time around.
Following on from a disappointing season last time out, Bolton began the new campaign on the right foot, with Jay Spearing’s volley earning them three points against Sheffield United.
Now under the stewardship of former Bradford City boss Phil Parkinson, Bolton are sure to take knock-out competitions seriously, given his history of success with The Bantams.
Vassell got Pool’s season up and running at the weekend and a clean sheet will have given Bowyer further satisfaction against The Grecians.
Bolton saw out victory against the much fancied Blades, going down the ten men in the second-half once Darren Pratley had hobbled off injured.
Danny Philliskirk will miss out through injury, having been withdrawn early on against Exeter, likewise for Bright Osayi-Samuel and Kyle Vassell who were taken off prematurely.
Jack Redshaw is again unavailable, while Bowyer is expected to ring the changes and give minutes to a number of his squad players.
Pratley has been ruled out for ten weeks, while Zach Clough and Max Clayton are unlikely to feature for Bolton, who will rest Lewis Buxton and David Wheather.
In The Cup
Aston Villa travel to Luton Town in the first round, while Derby County host recently promoted Grimsby Town.
Sheffield Wednesday are away to Cambridge United and Fulham face a London derby with Leyton Orient.
