Blackpool take on Cheltenham Town in their first Checkatrade Trophy cup tie of the season on Tuesday night, where Gary Bowyer is set to cast an eye over various squad players.

The tie with be one of three group games on Pool’s hands in the coming months, with the competition, formerly known as the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, changing format this season.  

Elsewhere, Bolton Wanderers host Everton’s Under-23s in the other Northern Group A game, with Blackpool set to travel to both clubs in the autumn. 

Bowyer must start with five players who were named in the starting 11 against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday but may experiment with the other six positions. 

The tie gives The Seasiders an opportunity get back on track after Saturday’s home defeat and is their first in this competition on home soil since 2005. 

Cheltenham are newly promoted back to the EFL and have adjusted back into life at this level reasonably well, winning once and drawing three times so far. 

Recent Form
Blackpool lost their unbeaten home record at the weekend, going down 1-0 to Plymouth Argyle. They did have joy in the EFL Cup at Bloomfield Road earlier in the month however, defeating Bolton before exiting to Crystal Palace last week. 

Cheltenham won for the first time in the league this season on Saturday, as Rob Dickie and James Dayton saw off Crewe Alexandra. They’d previously lost to Doncaster Rovers and drawn with Carlisle United during a mixed start to the season. 

Team News
Blackpool's Jack Payne will be available for the fixture, with his suspension not coming into play until the weekend. Danny Philliskirk, Jamille Matt and Jack Redshaw are all expected to miss out once more. Kyle Vassell and Bright Osayi-Samuel are in contention after coming off the bench at the weekend. 

Cheltenham will be without striker Dan Holman who has broken a bone in his foot. Also out is Kyle Storer, who is serving a long-term suspension, while Russell Griffiths is unavailable for the competition, with the goalkeeper currently on loan from Everton.
