Pool Open Up At Home
Fixture | Blackpool vs Exeter City
Date | 6 August 2016, 3pm
Venue | Bloomfield Road
It starts all over again for Blackpool this weekend and new manager Gary Bowyer hopes Saturday’s fixture with Exeter City could be the start of the club’s rebuilding job.
The Seasiders face a first season at this level since 2001 but, after consecutive relegations, they’ll look to transfer a positive pre-season into the league campaign.
Pool avoided defeat in all six of their pre-season friendlies and showed good potential in draws against Blackburn Rovers and Bury at Bloomfield Road.
This weekend they welcome an Exeter side whose summer was even more impressive, as Paul Tisdale’s men won every one of their pre-season friendlies.
The Grecians finished 14th in League Two last time out, but with the EFL’s longest serving manager and a settled squad, they’ll look to mount more of a challenge this season.
Brad Potts scored in the final minute to continue Blackpool’s momentum and register a 1-1 draw with Bury last weekend.
City’s final pre-season friendly came against an inexperienced Cardiff City side two days earlier and they comfortably prevailed by a 3-0 score line.
Luke Higham and Jack Redshaw will be Blackpool’s only absentees, with Andy Taylor and Jamille Matt passed fit enough to come into contention.
Bowyer could hand out up to ten debuts at Bloomfield Road, including to Eddie Nolan and Michael Cain who joined the club this week.
Exeter have injury doubts over two key personal, after skipper Jordan Moore-Taylor and Lee Holmes hobbled out of their friendly with Cardiff due to tough challenges.
