Blackpool Head To The Globe Arena
Fixture | Morecambe vs Blackpool
Date | 13 August 2016
Venue | Globe Arena
After back-to-back wins to open up the campaign, Blackpool’s next task is to get off the mark away from home with victory at Morecambe this weekend.
The Seasiders followed up three points on day one by progressing in the EFL Cup, using extra time to their advantage when seeing off Bolton Wanderers and setting up a trip to Crystal Palace.
Gary Bowyer utilised his squad to perfection in mid-week, making seven changes to his starting eleven and giving minutes to different personnel off the substitutes bench.
Morecambe prepare for their first home game of the season with a mixed start to the campaign behind them.
Beaten at Grimsby Town a week ago, Jim Bentley’s men made amends by beating Championship side Rotherham United, again after extra time.
This will be the first league meeting between the two sides, having only met in cup competitions previously.
Jim McAlister and John Herron struck in extra time as Blackpool beat Bolton 4-2 in mid-week. Their league record is also off to a good start, after a 2-0 success over Exeter last week.
Morecambe were comfortably beaten by Grimsby on the opening day, but responded with a 5-4 victory over Rotherham, which included a hat-trick from Liverpool loanee Jack Dunn.
Strikers Jamille Matt, Jack Redshaw and Danny Philliskirk will miss the trip through injury, while Kyle Vassell will be assessed closer to kick-off.
Midfielder Aaron Wildig is a doubt for Morecambe with an ankle injury, but striker Rhys Turner could return having missed the mid-week cup tie.
