New Blackpool Captain Confirmed

5 August 2016

Manager Hands Pugh The Armband

Manager Gary Bowyer has confirmed that Danny Pugh will be Blackpool's captain this season.

The midfielder, 33, joined the club from Bury this summer and has made more than 300 first-team appearances for the likes of Stoke City and Leeds United in his career to date.

"It wasn't easy, there were some other great candidates - Andy Taylor, Tom Aldred and Jim McAlister - but we've gone with Danny," Bowyer said.

"He's a great example for everybody here in terms of how he conducts himself both on and off the pitch. He's vastly experienced and has been there, seen it and done it.

"I've been very impressed with him ever since he's been in the building. We're delighted that he's our captain and hopefully he can get us off to a winning start tomorrow."

Left-back Andy Taylor, an off-season arrival from Walsall, will be Blackpool's vice-captain.
