Ciaran Donnelly's Squad On Erasmus+ TourThe youth team headed for Manchester airport this morning to catch a flight to The Netherlands, ahead of a 13-day Erasmus+ tour.
The trip, in conjunction with the LFE, is fully subsidised by the Erasmus+ fund to promote development and the exchange of ideas between coaches and players in both countries.
While out there, Ciaran Donnelly's side face off against a German team and two Dutch clubs in pre-season fixtures on the following dates:
vs VFL Osnabruck U19s (2 August)
vs FC Utrecht U-19s (6 August)
vs SBV Excelsior U-19s (9 August)
As part of their Dutch experience, which has been designed to broaden personal and professional horizons via a range of cultural activities, the squad will also train under the guidance of Sparta Rotterdam coaches and watch the Ajax first-team in action.
Dan Jolley, Projects Manager at LFE, said: “This initiative meets the cultural and sporting aims aligned to Erasmus+ and at the same time allows around one-hundred players in the English academy system the opportunity to sample life, training and work in another European nation.
“Many of them will experience playing against continental opposition for the first time. Learning about different styles of play, coaching and tactics can only help them become better players.”
