Bowyer: Objective Achieved

3 December 2016

Manager Delighted To Progress In Emirates FA Cup

Gary Bowyer was delighted to see his side progress to the third round of the Emirates FA Cup, as Blackpool edged out Brackley Town at Bloomfield Road.

The Seasiders found it tough at times against the National League North outfit, who had previously knocked out Gillingham, however Jamille Matt's sixth minute header proved enough to see the team through.

Speaking post-match, here's what the manager had to say...

Through to the next round.

We're delighted, that was the objective before the game and we managed to achieve it. Probably not with our best performance of the season but the main thing was getting through, and we've done that.

Another early goal and credit for the opposition.

It was a little bit like last Saturday but it was a great bit of play from us and one of the rare occasions that we did. I thought we were organised and disciplined with our defending, and you have to give Brackley an enormous amount of credit for how they played and the way they went about it. At the same time we've got to praise ourselves and the way we defended.

Jamille Matt on target again.

He's in a great bit of form with his goals and not just that but his link-up play as well. Long may that continue because the pair of them (Matt and Vassell) are a handful.

Late selection calls.

It's probably been the worst week in terms of injuries for us - in terms of preparation there's only four or five of them that trained yesterday. It was a little bit bitty but full praise to everybody involved because we've got through.

Potential Third Round Opponents.

Personally I'd love Man United away. I took a team to Anfield and that was a fabulous experience for everybody connected and it would be great to go to Old Trafford.
