Narrow Defeat For Youth Team At Wigan

22 February 2016

Donnelly's Side Lose Out 2-1

The youth team let a one-goal lead slip as they lost 2-1 against Wigan Athletic at Robin Park Arena on Saturday.

Blackpool took the lead in the second-half when Macauley Wilson scored a penalty after Alieu Njie was fouled in the area. The right-back had earlier seen a goal ruled out in the first-half for offside.

After going ahead, Blackpool’s hold on the game loosened and Myles Boney was called into action a few times and pulled off some superb saves.

The lead was short-lived, however, as just a few minutes later the hosts equalised when a free-kick on the right-hand side of the pitch was crossed into the box and headed into the back of the net.

The game became quite open and The Latics took the lead with 15 minutes to go when James Barrigan was released during a counter attack.

Overall, it was a disappointing defeat for Ciaran Donnelly’s side who played well against a team that currently top of the league table.
