Bowyer Keen For Youth To Shine

29 July 2016

Manager Pleased With Prospects

Gary Bowyer has praised the job that Ciaran Donnelly and John Murphy are doing with Blackpool's youth team and hopes to see more scholars progress to the first-team.

The manager has five former academy players in his squad for the forthcoming season and has given Rowan Roache and Caleb Richards valuable minutes in pre-season games against Blackburn Rovers and Tranmere Rovers.

"It's great for the club to keep producing its own," Bowyer said. "I know Ciaran Donnelly well from days gone by at Blackburn and him and Murph (John Murphy) are doing a terrific job with the youngsters. Long may that continue.

"When I first came in to the club one of the first things I did was to go and see Ciaran and see what we had. We're delighted with how they've been so far."

Although no importance is placed on pre-season results, summer signing Kyle Vassell has scored four goals so far and the manager feels there's plenty more to come from the former Peterborough United man.

"You saw last Saturday what a handful he is and on Tuesday he showed glimpses again, in the first-half he had a couple of half chances and shots and he hit the post in the second-half. He's going to be a handful in this league so we've got to get good service up to him."

Vassell is one of seven new faces to arrive at Bloomfield Road for 2016/17, however more additions will follow.

"We're working very hard on it and hopefully we can bring the right ones in. I'm not going to panic and just bring someone in for the sake of it if they don't fit in with the group. The players have bonded very well, very quickly and are a good, tight knit bunch. I've been delighted with their spirit."

Bowyer's side wrap up their pre-season preparations with a home game against Bury tomorrow. Tickets are priced at £5 for Adults and £2 for Concessions.
