Matt Happy To Get Off The Mark

Striker Looking To Build On First Pre-Season Run Out

Jamille Matt was pleased to score his first Blackpool goal in a pre-season run out against Dundee United on Tuesday.

The striker came off the bench for the second-half and managed to convert a cross from Brad Potts to get himself up and running.

"You're never 100 per cent going into pre-season games, you use them to get your fitness and sharpness in," he told the official website.

"Getting your first goal settles you down straight away, so it's nice to have scored as early as possible. I'm now looking to keep working hard ahead of another game tomorrow."

Having found the net on 11 occasions last season, including seven times during a loan spell with Plymouth Argyle, the summer arrival knows there will be an onus on the club's five strikers to score on a regular basis.

"There's five strikers and everybody offers something different. It'll be good to see how we all work together because we've got some good strong attacking options," he said.

"Your job as a striker is to score goals. You can play bad for 80 minutes, but if you pop up and score a couple of goals in the other ten minutes then nobody remembers the other stuff you did in that game. We're all hungry to score goals and the competition in the squad can only be good. If you don't score, then next week you might not be in the team. Hopefully we'll all be banging them in this season."
