Striker Pleased With Friendly Win
Two-goal striker Danny Philliskirk believes Blackpool’s 3-0 victory over Dundee United has set the standard high for pre-season.
Gary Bowyer was given a first glimpse of his players in action and won’t have been disappointed as they dusted off the cobwebs and cruised to victory.
Philliskirk opened his account from the penalty spot before curling in a fine second from outside the box, and was pleased to get off on the right note.
“We want to set high standards,” he explained. “After the disappointing season last year we wanted to start pre-season off well and we can now take that into the next games.
“We’ve started as we mean to go on, by winning our first game. We can’t stop here because everything wasn’t perfect today but we’ll keep working and hopefully improve.
“Obviously it’s just a pre-season friendly but it was good to get the legs going, keep a clean sheet and win the game.”
Dundee United begin competitive football at the weekend, so Philliskirk was impressed by Blackpool’s fitness levels in their first game of pre-season.
“They’re a couple of weeks ahead of us so are near peak fitness so it was challenging but it was a good game.”
The behind-closed-doors friendly gave manager Bowyer an opportunity to transfer the training work onto the pitch and Philliskirk believes Pool did that on Tuesday afternoon.
“The new Gaffer has brought his ideas in and all the lads have bought into it so we’re really enjoying ourselves at the minute.
“The lads have tuned into the game plan, we know what we’ve got to do,” he explained.
