Pre-Season Continues At Prenton Park

Fixture | Tranmere Rovers vs Blackpool
Date | 26 July 2016
Venue | Prenton Park

Blackpool’s pre-season continues on Merseyside this evening, as their unbeaten start to life under Gary Bowyer is put to the test against Tranmere Rovers.

With three wins and a draw to their name so far, Pool have started well and Saturday’s draw with Blackburn Rovers showed further progress.

Their penultimate pre-season friendly comes against Tranmere, where Bowyer is likely to cast his eye over the majority of his available squad once again.

The Opposition
Managed by former Pool midfielder Gary Brabin, Tranmere now ply their trade in the Vanarama Conference but are expected to mount another promotion challenge this season.

Having missed out on the play-offs on the final day last season, Brabin has strengthened by bringing in Connor Jennings from Wrexham and Andy Cook of Barrow, who hit 24 goals last season.

Their pre-season has brought impressive showings against Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers, while they beat non-league Northwich Victoria at the weekend.

Team News
With the Blackpool squad carrying a number of minor niggles, Bowyer is expected to field a similar side to the one which drew with Blackburn.

It means Danny Philliskirk and Kyle Vassell are set to start up front once more, with support coming from Brad Potts and Colin Daniel out wide.

Pre-Match Quotes
Bowyer: “They’ve worked very hard in pre-season and it’s showed they’ve taken the work from training into the games. I’m pleased with them but I want more. I want them to be better off the ball and more clinical in front of goal because we had a couple of great chances on Saturday.”

Brabin: “We’re on a fitness plan at the moment where we’re increasing the minutes but we want quality not quantity. Up to the 70th minute mark against Bolton we were pleased. It was a good work out and there were loads of pleasing aspects for us.”
