Bowyer Pleased With Additions

Strong Forward Options To Choose From

Gary Bowyer says the additions of Colin Daniel, Jamille Matt and Kyle Vassell strengthen Blackpool's attacking options ahead of the new season.

The manager has moved swiftly to identify targets to improve the squad and has made certain facets in the final third a priority.

"It was an area I identified that we needed to strengthen and all three players bring some power, pace and size to the team," he said. "We've got some firepower up there with the lads that are already here as well."

Bowyer has taken a lot of information on board in his first two weeks at Bloomfield Road, speaking to various people who know the club and the division. Discussions with other managers highlighted the need to mix things up with the characteristics previously mentioned.

"I've spoken to a lot of people in this league, or that have gotten out of this league, and that was a common theme and I didn't feel we had enough of it," he admitted. "We've addressed that very quickly and I'm very pleased with the business that we've done.

"They talked about the options at the top end of the pitch and I think we certainly have that now. I've got a variety of options available to me."

One of those options, Jamille Matt, hit 11 goals last season and was instrumental in Plymouth's push to the League Two play-off final while on loan.

"When you look at his form, especially at the end of the season when he was on loan at Plymouth, he showed what he's capable of doing in this league.

"We need that size and strength at the top of the pitch and everyone we have up top now brings something different and causes the opposition problems, hopefully.

"We have to score goals to win matches and with the players that we've got now up there, we think that we're capable of doing that."

Keen to bring more new faces to the club, the manager is now turning his attentions to other areas of the pitch.

"I'm now looking to build on that by targeting a couple of experienced defenders and hopefully a man in the middle of the field that can grab hold of the ball and the game and get us back. We're working very hard on that."
