Donnelly's Side Score Three Against RochdaleA goal from Jack Steele and a brace from Kit Gregory sealed a dominant 3-0 win for the youth team against Rochdale yesterday.
In his first match after spending several months out injured, Steele opened the scoring in the first-half to seal a dream return to the team.
The team pressed high which forced Dale to concede a throw-in near their own goal and from the throw-in Steele ghosted past a defender to be on the receiving end of Ben Badu’s low cross.
In the second half, the team continued to put Dale under pressure in their own half and it paid off with a second goal. After Caleb Richards won possession high up the pitch, Anthony Cato played an exquisite pass to Gregory in the box, who knocked the ball past the goalkeeper to double Pool’s lead.
Ciaran Donnelly’s side added gloss to the score-line just past the hour mark, Rowan Roache pulled the ball back to Gregory who scored his second of the match.
Overall it was a great performance by the youth team, who comfortably dominated from start to finish.
After the match, Steele said: “The injury happened early pre-season with a collision in a game, a bone growth in the hip joint was found which had to be operated on. I'm really excited to be back playing, it's been a long eight months on the sidelines but it's good to be back in the squad.
“Obviously after so long out I was just looking forward to getting on the pitch and getting minutes under my belt. Scoring was a bonus and I was happy I could make an impact on my return to the team."
