Record Crowd Attends Summer Bash

31 May 2016

Thrilling Weekend of Rugby League Action

A record crowd of 15,912 rugby league supporters attended the Summer Bash over the Bank Holiday weekend at Bloomfield Road.

For the second consecutive year, fans flocked to Blackpool in their numbers to watch six fixtures that showcased the talents in the Kingstone Press Championship, as well as the iPro Sport Cup final between League 1 sides Keighley Cougars and York City Knights.

A total of 55 tries were scored over the two-day extravaganza, while five of the keenly-contested games had a winning margin of four points or less.

RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood said: “Once again the Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 showed how competitive and exciting it is with each game being extremely captivating and enjoyable for all to watch.

“Thanks must go to the 15,912 fans who made the trip to sunny Blackpool and created such a fantastic atmosphere with the festival action and kaleidoscope of club colours being captured live on Sky Sports for the viewers watching at home. Special congratulations to Keighley Cougars who lifted the first silverware of the season, beating York City Knights in an incredibly close iPro Sport Cup final."
