Manager On 4-2 Victory Against Doncaster
Gary Bowyer was delighted with the response his side showed to fight back from a goal down to beat Doncaster Rovers 4-2.
A brace from Brad Potts and further strikes from Kelvin Mellor and Kyle Vassell secured all three points, while Sam Slocombe made amends for conceding a penalty late on with a big save to preserve the scoreline.
Speaking post-match, here's what the manager had to say...
Strong response and character after going a goal down.
It's been a fantastic response from the players. You look at the injustice we suffered last week at Accrington and then to go a goal down with an own goal, they really could have felt sorry for themselves. They didn't. We showed great character and great desire, and it shows you how much they're fighting and how much they want to be part of success here.
Quick thinking from Kyle Vassell leading to equaliser.
It was terrific. Kyle was immense today and I thought he was a real handful for them and a constant menace. He got the foul, put his hand on it quickly and played a great ball for a wonderful finish from Pottsy.
Two big goals for Brad Potts.
He probably owed us that from last week to be perfectly honest to him. He's got his head down, he's carried on and the second one is a wonderful strike.
The penalty save from Sam Slocombe late on.
The first penalty is just not a penalty and is getting really, really frustrating now. When they get the second one and Sam makes the save, it's a big moment for us and it gave us even more belief that we could go on and win the game.
Inspirational leadership from Danny Pugh after seven matches out.
We've missed his leadership, he's been wonderful for us since he's arriving. It was a blow when he got his injury and you saw today there was no way I was taking him off because he wouldn't want to come off. It just tells you everything about him.
