Manager On Right-Back's Contribution
Gary Bowyer has been delighted with Kelvin Mellor's initial impact at Blackpool and says there's more to come from the defender.
The summer arrival from Plymouth Argyle has added another dimension to the club's attacking instincts this season, while at the back he's been steady and dependable.
Supporters voted the 25-year-old as the club's Player of the Month for September and the manager feels he has the assets required to test himself higher up.
"In the summer when we were looking for a right-back and what criteria would fit how we wanted to play, Kelvin ticked all the boxes," Bowyer admitted. "His attacking play was certainly an added bonus because I think first and foremost, from my point of view, your full-backs have got to be able to defend. He's a wonderful one-v-one defender.
"We're happy with his contribution, yet I still feel there's a lot more to come from him. He's a player that, in my opinion, has the capabilities to play higher than this league."
Mellor's goal against Doncaster Rovers last weekend was his third of the season, which surpasses his previous efforts at Crewe and Plymouth.
"He loves to get forward and we try and encourage him to get forward even more. There's more goals to come from him, let's hope so anyway," the manager added.
