2-1 Victory Against Preston North End
Blackpool's under-16 girls came out on top in a keenly contested Lancashire derby against Preston North End this weekend.
Goals from Ellie Spooner and Beth Stott secured the victory and maintained The Seasiders' 100 per cent record in league and cup this season.
North End, last season's West Lancashire champions at under-14 level, started strongly and took the lead in the 14th minute, capitalising on a long ball over the top.
Blackpool drew level from the penalty spot, with Spooner converting after a foul on Leah Fielding inside the area.
Gemma Thrower almost put The Seasiders in front prior to half-time, however her terrific strike flashed inches wide of the post.
Half-Time: Preston North End 1 Blackpool 1
Blackpool continued to put pressure on the back line in the second-half but clear cut opportunities were few and far between.
It wasn't until the 70th minute that the side scored what proved to be the decisive winner, as Beth Stott's deflected strike found the bottom corner.
Preston, also on the back of an unbeaten start to the campaign, pushed for an equaliser but almost fell further behind when one of their own defenders turned Nyah Cartwright's cross onto the post.
Full-Time: Preston North End 1 Blackpool 2
"It was a fantastic win for us," manager Mac Barlow said. "PNE started the brighter, however as the game went on we grew in confidence and played well in spells.
"It’s very pleasing to see us match such a great side who went unbeaten all last season. The players were terrific in terms of attitude and work rate, which was phenomenal throughout this tough contest.
"It’s nice to come away with the three points and maintain our 100 per cent record seven games in."
