Academy Manager On Youth Team's Start
Ciaran Donnelly is pleased to see his youth side improving game-by-game with strong performances.
The Academy Manager has overseen an unbeaten start to the new campaign, which currently stretches to eight games in all competitions.
A 2-0 victory against Rochdale last weekend moved the under-18s to the top of the North West Youth Alliance table, with that display highlighting the progression.
"Our performances have improved week in, week out," Donnelly said. "From the first game of the season at Fleetwood, where we won comfortably but didn't play particularly well, to the performances that have been coming in for the last four or five weeks, we can't not be pleased.
"There will be times in the season where our performance levels will drop slightly but that's down to John Murphy and I to make sure that we keep on top of the lads and keep them motivated to perform, as well as improve every week."
The under-18s face a trip to Walsall tomorrow and the opposition will prove a stern test based on previous seasons.
"Walsall are up there every year, they're one of the benchmark teams. They're obviously doing things right there and it will be a great test for our players, and it's one that we're looking forward to.
"It will be a good game between two good teams, and it's the kind of game we want our lads to be playing in because you come out of them and see who the shining lights are," he added.
