23 October 2016

Roache On Target In 1-1 Draw

The youth team drew 1-1 with Morecambe in their final group stage game of the Youth Alliance Cup at Myerscough College.

The visitors took the lead just before half-time through a contentious penalty by Steve Yawson, before Rowan Roache equalised for the youth team.

The first chance for Ciaran Donnelly's side fell in the eighth minute through Denzel Williams, who headed just wide of the goal from a corner.

The Seasiders came close to scoring soon after when they won a free-kick in a dangerous area. Roache was denied a sensational goal by Niall Maher's diving save.

The youth team continued to grow into the game but could not find a way through a resolute Morecambe defence.

Yawson was fouled just outside the box but the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. Yawson dusted himself off and scored the penalty to give his side the lead.

Half-time: Blackpool 0 Morecambe 1

The Seasiders started the second-half well and applied pressure onto the Morecambe goal.

Richards had an effort well saved from the edge of the area before Roache shot off-target from distance.

Blackpool had two free-kicks from wide positions in quick succession but the visitors cleared both the crosses.

Just before the hour mark Badu brushed the side netting of the goal with a low shot from distance.

The equaliser came in the 78th minute when Lewis Wainwright played the ball to Roache who scored from inside the area.

Just moments later Donnelly's side had the ball in the back of the net again, but the goal was disallowed for a handball.

The draw means that both sides finish on seven points, with The Shrimps topping the group due to their superior goal difference.
