Striker Boost For Seasiders

8 September 2016

Manager Confirms Philliskirk Return

Danny Philliskirk is back training with the Blackpool squad and could come into contention for the game against Colchester United on Saturday.

The striker has been out of action since the opening day of the season after sustaining an ankle injury when challenging his own team-mate, Brad Potts, for the ball.

However, after some light work with the physio, the 25-year-old has resumed full training this week and bolsters the manager's options in the final third.

The former Oldham Athletic man looked lively in pre-season and will be aiming to force his way back into the side.

"He was doing ever so well and playing some very good football. He was just starting to strike a partnership up with Kyle Vassell," manager Gary Bowyer admitted.

"Him coming back now obviously gives us another option, but he has the ability to play out wide as well so it'll be like getting two players back."

Bowyer has also revealed a likely training return date for Jamille Matt, who has been out with a knee problem since the EFL Cup game against Bolton Wanderers.

"We certainly hope that he might join in on Friday with training and that will give me a (selection) problem, but it's certainly a nice one."
