Unbeaten Start Continues For Youth Team

25 September 2016

Sinclair-Smith On Target Against Bury

The youth team earned a hard fought 1-0 win against Bury at Myerscough College yesterday.

Finlay Sinclair-Smith’s second-half goal ensured that Blackpool’s unbeaten start to the season remained intact, which now extends to six games in all competitions.

The Seasiders started well and had several early chances.

Just a few minutes into the game Sinclair-Smith found space in the area and stung the palms of the goalkeeper.

Shortly after the youth team had a great opportunity to go ahead when Sinclair-Smith’s shot from distance was spilled into the path of Will Dunne, who headed the rebound just wide of the goal.

Jack Newton had a shot blocked before Dylan Sumner’s header was well caught by Cameron McCulloch.

At the other end, Jack Sims produced a great save to deny Liam Williams who volleyed the ball from a corner.

Just before the half-hour mark Rowan Roache’s shot from distance went just wide of the post which was followed shortly by Sumner’s header that went over the goal.

The visitors came close to taking the lead against the run of play but were stopped by a superb last-minute block by Ben Jacobson.

However it was Blackpool that ended the half on the front foot with Roache having a shot saved and the rebound falling to Dunne who shot but was denied by a great last ditch block with the goal open.

Half-time: Blackpool 0 Bury 0

The youth team started the second-half strongly and had two efforts that went just wide of the post through Dunne and Roache.

In the 55th minute Dunne then forced McCulloch into a great diving save, shortly before Ben Jacobson’s effort from distance was palmed over the bar.

Just after the hour mark Dunne was played through on goal but shot straight at the keeper.

The deadlock was finally broken by Sinclair-Smith in the 70th minute who scored from a cross to give Blackpool a deserved lead.

Overall it was a great performance against a good Bury side sitting top of the league, having won their opening five games before this match.

Full-time: Blackpool 1 Bury 0
