Ryan Allsop says Blackpool’s first victory of the season comes as a timely boost ahead of meeting fellow promoted side Doncaster Rovers this weekend.
The goalkeeper, one of 13 new additions over the summer, has started both of the club’s league fixtures so far and has stressed the importance of getting that first three points early on.
“We can’t be one of those teams where we play well and don’t win, so it was good to get that win under our belt against MK Dons,” the 26-year-old said. “It’s a good kick-start for us and hopefully we can do the same again on Saturday.”
Only Clark Robertson was a constant at the back from last season’s line-up against Robbie Neilson’s side, with Blackpool’s clean sheet in the 1-0 victory seeing several new faces make home debuts.
“Everyone has gelled really well – it’s a really good dressing room here,” Allsop continued. “We’ve done brilliantly to settle so well into the back four or five, whatever we want to play. That’s only a positive going forward,
“It’s always good to get that first clean sheet, and as a unit we’ve looked brilliant at the back. We’re defending from the front as well, everyone is working very hard and that’s the system and style that we want to play.”
While retaining his place between the sticks for league games so far, Allsop is quick to acknowledge the competition he’s up against for a starting spot this season.
“Willo (Ben Williams), Chris (Mafoumbi) and Myles (Boney) are all good goalkeepers. I’ve had the nod so far in the league games so hopefully that’s mine to lose. I just want to play as many games as possible and do as well as I can.”
