Blackpool Football Club can confirm the signing of Sessi D’Almeida from Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.
Capped internationally for Benin, the French-born defensive midfielder has agreed an initial one-year deal at Bloomfield Road, with the option of a further year.
D’Almeida departs Oakwell having featured three times for Barnsley in the opening month of last season, with an anterior cruciate ligament tear ruling him out of action for the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign.
Prior to that, the 21-year-old had spent time with Paris Saint Germain’s B team, having initially progressed through the Bordeaux academy system to play two first-team fixtures, including a UEFA Europa League group stage game against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
On his move to Blackpool, Sessi D’Almeida said:
“I am very happy to sign for Blackpool and I will give everything for this team. Last season I was injured, but I’ve come back strong and I’m ready to play. The gaffer has given me this chance and has the confidence in me, so I’m really happy to join.”
Manager Gary Bowyer added:
“Sessi fits the profile of our recruitment and brings some qualities we’ve been looking for in midfield. He’s strong, athletic, willing to put his foot in and has a fantastic, all-round work rate. He’s determined to make an impact and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
