Fixture | Bradford City vs Blackpool - Date | 5 August 2017 - Venue | Valley Parade
A new season and a new challenge for Blackpool, who are welcomed back into League One life with a trip to one of the division’s pre-season favourites in Bradford City.
The Seasiders, fresh from earning promotion at Wembley just ten weeks ago, go into the new campaign with momentum under the belts, which continued with a strong pre-season.
Gary Bowyer watched his side net 20 times across seven warm up matches and he’ll hope they can continue that form at Valley Parade.
12 signings have come through the Bloomfield Road doors during the summer months and the majority are likely to don a Pool shirt for the first time in Yorkshire.
They take on a Bradford side who were within 90 minutes of The Championship last season, however defeat to Millwall in the Play-Off Final subjected them to another campaign in the third tier.
They’ve been beaten by North East duo Sunderland and Newcastle United during pre-season, but warmed up for the campaign with a 3-0 win at FC Halifax Town last weekend.
Blackpool beat Macclesfield Town 2-0 in their final friendly last Saturday, with Mark Cullen netting twice. Other summer victories came at Southport, Salford City, Radcliffe and Chorley.
Omari Patrick bagged twice as City beat Halifax at The Shay last weekend, while Guiseley were also defeated, however defeats came against Bradford Park Avenue, Newcastle and Sunderland.
Bowyer has only Jim McAlister missing through injury, but will have to find a replacement for Brad Potts in his side after the midfielder joined Barnsley on Thursday.
Bradford will be without influential striker Charlie Wyke at Valley Parade. Dominic Poleon and Paul Taylor returned to training on Thursday so may feature. Timothee Dieng has returned to action in the last week so may earn a start.
