The busy start to the new season continues for Blackpool on Tuesday evening, as their Carabao Cup campaign begins at Wigan Athletic’s DW Stadium.
The Seasiders took the positives, despite an opening day defeat at Bradford City, on Saturday and they’ll face another tough test against the recently-relegated Latics.
Gary Bowyer has made clear his intentions to make changes from the weekend, with the likes of Ben Williams, Nick Anderton and Max Clayton all waiting for debuts.
Last season Pool beat Bolton Wanderers in the first round to set up a trip to Premier League Crystal Palace, so the incentive is there once again on Tuesday evening.
Wigan got off to a winning start at the weekend and, under new manager Paul Cook, will now be eyeing a run in the cup themselves.
Colin Daniel’s strike counted for nothing at Valley Parade, as Bradford struck either side to pick up all three points. There were plenty of positives to take however, with Nathan Delfouneso almost claiming a point late on.
Wigan beat MK Dons 1-0 on the opening day, as Nick Powell netted the only goal. Callum Elder was dismissed for The Latics, however the hosts levelled things up through Scott Wootton’s red card.
Bowyer will do without Jim McAlister and Kelvin Mellor at the DW Stadium. He’ll also need to decide how to rotate his side, with the likes of Peter Hartley and Bright Osayi-Samuel waiting in the wings.
Wigan will be without the services of Elder, after the Leicester City loanee was dismissed on Saturday. Cook is also expected to rotate his team, with former Pool men Donervon Daniels, Jordan Flores and David Perkins all likely to feature, with Michael Jacobs also available for the hosts.
