Match Preview: Colchester United (H)

3 February 2017

Back To League Action

Fixture | Blackpool vs Colchester United
Date | 4 February 2017
Venue | Bloomfield Road

Preview
The message is clear from Gary Bowyer, now out of the FA Cup, Blackpool have 20 games to realise their ambitions of securing a place in the League Two play-offs.

The club’s cup interests were ended at Blackburn Rovers a week ago, so attention returns fully to League Two, starting with a home game against Colchester United on Saturday.

It’s the first of back-to-back home games for The Seasiders, who’ll look to gain an edge on Colchester, who themselves are hunting down the top seven.

Their runs of form typify League Two, with a nine-game unbeaten run recently taking John McGreal’s side from the relegation zone to seventh, where they’re looking to return to.

Recent Form
Blackpool are without a League Two win since Boxing Day, but have drawn three of their four league games since. Nathan Delfouneso scored at the death to secure a point against Yeovil Town in their last home game.

Colchester’s fine run of form was ended at Exeter City a fortnight ago, and they’ve not had a game since. The U’s were targeting a tenth match unbeaten but were undone by three City goals without reply at St James Park.

Team News
Bowyer confirmed his full squad is back training ahead of the fixture, but Brad Potts and Kyle Vassell will be monitored before his selection is made. He’ll be without Kelvin Mellor, who is suspended after picking up to yellow cards at Ewood Park. Debuts to deadline day signings Jordan Flores, Neil Danns and Raul Correia could be on the cards at Bloomfield Road.

United could hand debuts to Dean Brill, Sean Murray and Rekeil Pyke, who all signed this week. Owen Garvan’s knee injury will be assessed pre-match, but Sammie Szmodics and Luke Prosser remain sidelined with long-term injuries.
