Manager Reflects On FA Cup Performance
Gary Bowyer was pleased with how his side fared against Championship side Barnsley in the Emirates FA Cup this afternoon.
The Seasiders put in an action-packed display at Bloomfield Road but were unable to break the deadlock, meaning a replay will be required to decide the winners of the tie.
Speaking post-match, here’s what the manager had to say…
A pleasing performance.
I’m very pleased with them. I’m delighted with how they’ve gone about it, on another day we could have got through. We’ve had great opportunities and their goalkeeper’s made two very, very good saves.
I’m pleased with how they’ve gone about it. We’ve kept a clean sheet against a very good Championship team and they’re one of the highest scorers in The Championship. It’s a pleasing day and we’re still in the hat.
We had a change of formation just to see what it would be like, and the players took it on board ever so well. They’ve had a right good go and we’re pleased with all their efforts. We probably just lacked a little bit of composure in the final third, if I’m to be critical at all.
Promising signs with formation change.
We decided to have a look at it and it presents us with an opportunity that if we need to look at it in future, it’s something that we can do. I thought it worked well for us today. It’ll be interesting to see how we go with that.
Drama in added time – big save from Slocombe and chance for Jamille Matt.
It was a great save from Sam and just a slip from Tom. At the other end Jammer had a great opportunity and he’s blazed it over when Bright had created the opportunity for him.
Going to a replay.
I don’t mind replays, we took Manchester City when I was at Blackburn to a replay. It’s a chance to play against higher opposition again and a chance for the players to test themselves again. I’m all for that, I don’t mind that at all.
