Academy Manager On Youth Team's 9-0 Win
Ciaran Donnelly was absolutely delighted with his youth side's 9-0 victory at Bury on Saturday.
The margin of victory, the team's biggest of the season, was unprecedented against a strong Bury side, who were third in the league before the two sides met at Carrington.
Speaking post-match, here's what the academy manager had to say...
A big win in an important match.
We’re all absolutely delighted with the victory. It was one that we had built up to the lads before Christmas and when we came back into the training it was in preparation for this game.
I had full faith in them and from the first minute they were fantastic. Nobody could’ve thought that we could be quite as good as we were but to be 5-0 up after 15 minutes almost sounds like it’s kids football, but it’s not. This was a match between two good under-18 teams in a match between second and third in the league.
A title challenge.
We set out to win the title at the start of the season and even though that’s not your first priority as a youth coach, I believe that if you do win the league then you must have good players. There’s still a long way to go but we’ve made a great start.
The Bury academy.
We have a lot of respect for Bury and their academy. They’ve had some really good teams over the last couple of years and are doing well in the league again this year.
