Richie Kyle says Blackpool's pre-season victory at Southport was a 'good workout' and 'building block' for the start of the new campaign.
Goals from Kyle Vassell, Armand Gnanduillet and Bright Osayi-Samuel came in a 3-1 win at Haig Avenue, with every member of the squad getting valuable minutes.
"It was a good workout, it was a good game for us," Kyle said. "We worked hard all week on different things, but most importantly it’s about the lads getting their fitness back and getting the tempo and the standards that we expect. It’s just another building block for the game against Bradford."
All seven of Blackpool's summer signings so far featured in the game, as the players get to grips with the way Gary Bowyer wants his side to play this season.
"It takes time to implement the ideas with the new signings and takes time to get the patterns of play that you want. Our performance levels will get better and our fitness levels will get better," Kyle continued.
"Pre-season friendlies are about fitness, but you still want to win football matches and you want to keep breeding that winning mentality, especially with the new lads coming in.
"We had great momentum at the end of last season, especially at Wembley, and that’s still in there, the atmosphere around the camp and the atmosphere on the training ground. You want to try and keep that for as long as you possibly can," he added.
