Delfouneso Scores Hat-Trick In Pre-Season Run Out

22 July 2017

Nathan Delfouneso, Mark Cullen, Jamille Matt and Danny Philliskirk all got amongst the goals as Blackpool recorded a 7-0 pre-season victory against Radcliffe Borough.

With some of their team-mates playing six miles away at Salford, all four forwards took advantage of some good game-time to find the net and get up and running for the new campaign.

Delfouneso, playing out wide, scored three of the afternoon's goals, while Cullen marked his first run-out of pre-season with a brace.

Sean Longstaff, signed on loan from Newcastle United 24 hours earlier, played the full 90 minutes in midfield.

It was Delfouneso who opened the scoring after 21 minutes, tucking in a rebound after initially being denied by Ryan Jones.

Jamille Matt quickly doubled Blackpool's lead three minutes later, stroking the ball past the goalkeeper after a neat, little move.

Delfouneso then grabbed his second of the game and Blackpool's third with a diving header from Ollie Turton's cross.

Danny Philliskirk almost made it four but for the post, while the crossbar denied Radcliffe captain Ryan Salmon at the other end.

Mark Cullen stepped off the bench for the start of the second-half and almost had an immediate impact, however his close range effort was ruled out for offside.

Despite that, Blackpool continued to press and found the net for the fourth time on 54 minutes, as Nathan Delfouneso took the ball down at the back stick before lashing it past the keeper to score his hat-trick.

The goal turned out to be one of Delfouneso's last bits of action, as he was withdrawn as a precaution, while Will Aimson also came off after taking a blow to the nose.

Cullen finally got the goal he had been craving in the 78th minute and quickly added to it in the 81st, latching on to a through ball from Matt and making no mistake when one-on-one with the 'keeper.

Danny Philliskirk, who returned to the pitch as Aimson's replacement, unleashed a powerful, 18-yard drive that found the net with minutes remaining, while Rowan Roache had a great chance to make it eight with the final kick of the game.
