Kyle Vassell aims to step back up and impress in Sky Bet League One this season, having signed off last term with 13 goals and a promotion.
The striker, who has previously played at this level for Peterborough United and Shrewsbury Town, is determined to build on a campaign that saw him record his best strike tally for a professional club.
“Personally, it was the best season that I’ve had and it happened early, I had my best year by Christmas,” said Vassell, who had to contend with a few injury problems.
“The fact we got promoted and I played a big part in the season makes it my best season.
“I had a few little injuries but if I can stay on top of them this season, then I’m sure I’ll have another good one.”
Currently away with the team on a pre-season training camp in Scotland for the second time, Vassell is quick to reveal how beneficial the trip away is for new arrivals and squad bonding.
“I loved the Scotland trip last year and came off the back of it with a couple of goals as well. It’s a good trip for new boys, I was new last year and it was good for me because I got to bond with the boys already here.”
While away the team will play a pre-season fixture behind closed doors against Dundee United, in preparation for the season officially kicking off against Bradford City next month.
The players are already counting down the days to getting underway and Vassell, for one, can’t wait.
“We’re in a new league, it will be a new test and a different type of football, but we’re looking forward to it,” he remarked.
