Full-Back Delighted With Win
Kelvin Mellor praised Blackpool’s mental strength which saw them edge closer to the play-offs with a hard-fought victory over Stevenage.
The Seasiders netted from the spot thanks to Mark Cullen and showed their resilience in keeping a third clean sheet on the spin.
Stevenage arrived free-scoring and unbeaten in nine matches, so Mellor was pleased to see Blackpool overcome a high-flying side once again.
“The big one is our mentality,” he said post-match. “It’s not just the defenders, it’s the whole team, we dug deep and showed our heart.
“We know we can clean sheets, we just need to keep repeating the things we’re doing on the training ground.
“It was a tough game. We knew what we were going to be up against and the boys dealt with it well, we battled and ended up coming out on top.”
Blackpool netted from the penalty spot for the first time this season and Mellor always had faith in Cullen from 12 yards.
“I was confident to be fair. The Gaffer’s made it clear we can’t keep missing these chances, but it happens in football, one was bound to go in.
“These are the results which see teams doing well at the end of the season and it stands us in good stead for the next game,” he added.
