Right-Back Reflects On Achievements
Kelvin Mellor says he felt 'very privileged' to scoop another two accolades at the club's awards night on Sunday.
The right-back, having been named in the Football Manager Team of the Season and PFA Team of the Season for Sky Bet League Two, was named Players' Player of the Year and the Blackpool Gazette's Player of the Year at Bloomfield Road.
"I was very privileged to receive the awards. Your fellow professionals, your team-mates voting for you I was very happy with that, and also getting the Gazette one that the fans had voted for was really good," Mellor admitted.
"I've been injury free and not really missed many games this season, which is the aim really when you're playing, you want to play every week. It's been a good season and I'm very happy to receive these awards, but the season's not finished yet."
Though part of a defence that has kept 15 clean sheets in the league, it's further forward where Mellor's improvements have been noticeable, having recorded a career best goal tally of seven.
"I've been fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of a few goals - I've not really had the chance to be up for corners and stuff with other teams I've played for," he said. "But it's not just me, it's been collectively where people have chipped in with goals."
On the subject of finding the net, Mellor feels The Seasiders should have made more of their chances in the 3-1 victory against Leyton Orient on Saturday and is now relishing two play-off fixtures against Luton Town.
"It should have been four or five at least, but we won the game, we did a professional job of it and we've got to take it into Luton now and be positive," he added.
