Goalkeeper Thrilled With Play-Off Promotion
Goalkeeper Sam Slocombe was full of praise for his team-mates after Blackpool beat Exeter in the League Two play-off final.
The Seasiders were pushed all the way but managed to hold out and win 2-1 against The Grecians.
“I’m feeling relieved to be honest. Going through the play-offs is the best way to go up and to go up at the first time of asking is a great achievement,” Slocombe said.
“Credit to the lads because they were fantastic. During the last five minutes they were probably dead on their feet but they were determined to get through it.”
The shot-stopper also heaped praise on the manager, Gary Bowyer, who has been influential in getting The Seasiders promoted back to League One.
“A lot of credit has got to be given to the gaffer for the recruitment that he has done. He’s brought together a fantastic squad that has experienced this kind of situation before and I think that really told.”
The victory at Wembley continued Blackpool’s fine relationship with the play-offs, with the club now setting a record as five-time winners.
“The play-offs become a lottery and as a club we’re lucky to have had so many winning tickets.”
