Bowyer: Disappointed To Exit

Manager On Emirates FA Cup Defeat

4 November 2017

Gary Bowyer couldn’t mask his disappointment at exiting the Emirates FA Cup this afternoon, yet felt his side didn’t do too much wrong.

The Seasiders controlled possession for large parts of the game against National League side Boreham Wood and deservedly took the lead in the 62nd minute.

However, substitutes Blair Turgott and Dan Holman made an instant impact for the home side and both found the net to secure a 2-1 victory late on.

Speaking post-match, here’s what the manager had to say…

Disappointed to exit.

We’re disappointed to be out. I thought we came here today and applied ourselves properly and played the right way. We should have been out of sight by half-time.

From my point of view, the way that they went about it and the way that they played the game, I can’t have too many criticisms of them. The only disappointing factor with it was the two goals, and the manner of the two goals.

We’ve got to pick ourselves up now and get ready for next weekend.

Scoring and conceding within three minutes.

Our own goal was a fabulous goal, it was well-worked with great movement and a great finish. Philli can do that, he can score goals, and he’s certainly done that this week.

We then gave it away cheaply in the middle of the park – we didn’t get it back quick enough – and should have defended it a lot better.

No overreaction.

You’ve got to be level headed in how we performed and how we went about it because we were decent enough. What we have to do is be more clinical in front of goal and stop those silly goals that we seem to have been leaking in the last couple of weeks.
