Gary Bowyer hailed the work ethic of his side after Blackpool got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory at Peterborough United.
The Seasiders, who welcomed Kyle Vassell back from injury, ran themselves into the ground to see out a big result and three points at The ABAX Stadium.
Speaking post-match, here’s what the manager had to say…
The shift and response.
It was an incredible shift from them. We knew we’d get a reaction from them because the intensity in training all week was good. Their honesty was very good at the beginning of the week when we were debriefing what had gone on against Portsmouth, and the performance they gave today is a proud one for me. They gave it everything and emptied themselves. I was really impressed with them.
Quick start pays off.
We started off ever so well and forced Peterborough to change their shape early. I think it was a mark of how well we’d performed in the first 10, 15 minutes of the game. We dealt with their change of shape and kept going.
You saw today the importance of Kyle Vassell to the team. He gave everybody a lift and gives the opposition something to think about that we’ve probably not had in the couple of games he’s been out.
A real team effort.
The goalkeeper, Ryan Allsop, produced two good saves first-half for us at crucial times, and the back four were immense. We had Kelvin coming back in and Ollie Turton playing out of position, if you like, at left-back. The two centre-halves did ever so well. It was a real, big team effort.
Jay Spearing in there captaining the team marshalled the ones in front very well.
