Andy Todd was pleased with the attitude and application the Blackpool’s players displayed in a 4-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory against Middlesbrough’s Under-21s.
Goals from Danny Philliskirk (2), Sean Longstaff and Sessi D’Almeida helped secure The Seasiders at least second place in Northern Group B, and therefore a place in the next round of the competition.
Speaking post-match, here’s what Blackpool’s first-team coach had to say…
We always wanted to bounce back after Saturday’s game and it was a decent performance with four good goals and a win, which is what we set out to do.
Caleb has come in at right-back and done really well and Danny Philliskirk has got two good goals. We’re pleased, we’ve had some good performances. It was all about our attitude and application tonight, and it will be the same on Saturday.
It gives players that have been out the team a chance to prove themselves and a chance to get themselves fit.
We want players to give us headaches, we don’t want it to be an easy decision. People have to fight for their place in the team and you’ve got to earn the right to stay in it. If you’re out the team, you’ve got to earn your right to get in it. There were some good performances there tonight and a few of them staked a claim for Saturday.
